#TravelWell Part 10: The A-Z Guide of Wash Bag Essentials
An obvious but important product to pack! If you are going somewhere hot and sunny then you want to be smelling your best. Antiperspirants differ from deodorants in that they help stop you sweating, instead of just masking the smell. Did you know the first antiperspirant was launched way back in 1988 in the USA!
Going makeup free on holiday can fill some people with horror, but heavy layers of foundation don’t work well with hotter climates. Choose a lightweight BB cream so you can still get a bit of coverage but it won’t melt away during the day!
Those fluffy little balls can often get left behind! Pop them in the top pocket of our hanging traveller bag at the start of your wash bag packing so they don’t get forgotten.
To decant or not to decant? It optimises wash bag space rather than taking large bottles away with you. Why not just buy travel minis? Travel sized toiletries can cost up to 8 times more per ml than their full-sized friends! Hold on to your pounds and save them for an extra mojito by the pool.
TOP TIP! A funnel makes decanting your lotions and potions a breeze. B&Q’s set of 4 is perfect for different sized bottles!
Eau de Toilette

Feminine Hygiene Products
Nobody wants to be caught short. Be on the safe side as pack some extras just in case.
Gel. Shower of course.
A fresh and fruity fragrance is a basic holiday staple. The Body Shop’s range smell good enough to eat. But do I go for a shower gel or a body wash? The main difference is the texture. A wash has a creamier consistency but a gel is the best option for the summer. It is thinner meaning it lasts longer but it also doesn’t melt in the heat and gels tend to have a stronger scent to them to leave you smelling extra gorgeous.
Hair bands, grips, hair brush and if you’re feeling extravagant, some hairspray. Holiday hair doesn’t need to be a challenge.
Are you a mozzie’s favourite meal? Keep bugs away with a bottle of insect repellent spray.
Jar of Face Cream
Make sure to pack a nourishing and hydrating face cream for your holiday. Hot weather and drying aeroplane air con can be very drying for the skin so make sure to hydrate your face at the end of the day.
The warm weather and chlorine can be drying to our hair. Using a keratin conditioner will help keep your locks looking smooth and stylish and give it some much needed hydration.
Here are Victoria Green HQ, we are a bit obsessed with lavender oil! Pop a few drops on your pillowcase to help you get to sleep. Create a DIY after sun lotion, mix aloe vera with a body lotion and some lavender oil to soothe those sun burns.
Moisturising and Frizz Free Shampoo
The humidity from flying, combined with hot temperatures abroad, can lead to dreaded frizzy hair! Make sure to include a frizz combating shampoo in your wash bag and anything with extra moisturising properties will take care of your hair in the sun.
TOP TIP: For fly away hairs, spritz some hairspray on a clean mascara wand to tame the frizz. Great for those wispy ponytail strays!
A handy tool to have with you and not just for your nails. You might find yourself using them to cut open the juice box, when you can’t find anything suitable to use in the kitchen!
Planning and preparation help keep holiday packing stress to a minimum. Make a list of what you want to take in your wash bag and tick them off as you go. If you are not sure what sort of wash bag you need, find out here.
A mini first kit with the essentials is a must have for any trip. Plasters, paracetamol, a few bandages and some tweezers (in case of any splinters!) Imodium and contraception are optional.
A mid-day refresh after your morning sunbathing session? Yes please. We love the cooling mist by First Aid Beauty. It quenches and nourishes, is perfect for sensitive skin and packed full of green superfoods! Does this count as one of our 5 a day? We think so!
Hairy legs and poolside chic is not a look most of us can pull off. Buy a new razor a week before you go away so it’s not brand new but not blunt for your holiday.
TOP TIP: Never worry about running out of razors again! Try Friction Free Shaving’s (FFS) subscription service.
Of course, we all know we need to take sun cream with us! But which one and what SPF to use? Check our top tips here so you are sun cream savvy.
Toothbrush and Toothpaste
Another obvious one but something we often forget. Or we just forget one of them! To keep them joined at the hip, tie them together with a spare hair band.
Under Eye Cream
Just because you’re having a relaxing holiday, doesn’t mean you always get a peaceful night’s sleep. Whether you’ve got noisy neighbours, children waking up in the early hours or you just can’t settle, a good eye cream is a hero holiday product.
TOP TIP! Put a couple of spoons in the freezer overnight, then in the morning pop them over your eyes to reduce any puffiness!
Vaseline is an amazing and multipurpose beauty product. Take a tub with you on your travels and use it for lots of things! Other than a lip balm, you can use it as a moisturiser, makeup remover (wow!) and even to soothe sun burn or rashes. Try mixing it with some sugar to make your very own body scrub.
Another crucial holiday essential. Great for keeping hands clean, removing makeup and to refresh your face whilst you lie on the beach! Always keep some on you.
X Marks the Spot
We’ve all had a spot at an annoying time, right before that interview or for that important date! The greasy sun cream and sweaty skin can make you break out when you’re in the sun. Pop an anti-blemish stick in your wash bag to tackle any holiday pimples. We love Benefit’s Boo Boo Zap treatment.
Your Favourite Hair Treatment
Feeling at home whilst on holiday is important. Take your favourite hair treatment with you, whether that's a conditioning masque or a must have serum. It's always nice to have a touch of luxury when you're away.
Now you’ve packed your wash bag with your holiday essentials, you can get a good night’s sleep before you jet off!
