#TravelWell Part 7: Top Beauty Trends for Festival Chic Hair and Makeup
Festival season is nearly upon us. Coachella is calling and the wellies are being dug out from the back of the cupboard. With the muddy fields and limited shower resources, the fun and music filled long weekends can play havoc with your beauty routine.
We’ve curated a selection of top trends and tips, to make staying stylish on the festival field, stress free and simple!
How to Keep Your Hair Looking Instagram ReadyIt’s All About the Plait
Plaits are your festival friends. Fishtail plaits are always on trend and keep your hair out of the way, ready for dancing the day away! Mermaids Hair have got the best #hairgoals
If you find a fishtail plait a bit of a faff, then why not have a go at a plait up do! It is an easy look to recreate (and can help camouflage greasy roots!)
For this milkmaid plait look, all you need to do is create two side plaits, then wrap them around the top of your head, securing the ends at the back with hair grips. Simple! We love this step by step pictogram from Lulus.com
Bye Bye Roots!
Whether you’re growing out your hair, didn’t have time to go to the hairdresser or trying to disguise those pesky greys, nobody wants to have unsightly roots poking through. Luckily cover up powders are now a beauty staple and with a simple swipe of a brush, roots are hidden in an instant!
The handy pocket size root concealer is great for on the go, so you can touch up the whole weekend.
Don't forget to take your dry shampoo with you. If you combine the root touch up with a spritz of Batiste dry shampoo then this will add some extra volume to your hair.
TOP TIP: When going the weekend without washing your hair, you need to start with the right products. Before heading off to the festival, give your hair a good lather with a clarifying oil free shampoo. This will get rid of any dirt build up and give your hair the best chance of staying grease free until you reunited with your beloved shower.
We recommend the Rainforest Balance Shampoo from The Body Shop.High Pony Club
A ponytail is a quick and easy hair fix. Aim high and create a high pony for that ultra glam blogger style. Victoria aka In the Frow is always on trend and we love her voluminous up do!
Now you've got your hair sorted, it's time to get your festival makeup bag ready!
Create a Cosmetics Capsule CollectionNail the Neon Trend
Neon and ombre nails are a key summer trend and bright colours are always great for festivals. The ombre effect is easy when you know how but might take a few practice goes until you have perfected it! Follow So Sue Me's handy step by step guide and you will have a beautiful dip dye manicure before you know it.
Starflower Set of 2 Makeup Bags - £13
Our set of 2 makeup bags makes a great festival companion. Pop all your toiletries in the larger one and then keep the small one on you for re-touches throughout the day.
Whichever shade you go for: navy, cobalt or baby, blue is the beauty colour of the season. The new smoky eye (#mermaidblue) is fun and colourful which makes it perfect for festivals. For a full on look we are coveting The Beauty Bunny's shimmering eye makeup. Or for a more subtle finish, opt for a blue eyeliner. We love the long lasting and high pigmented ‘Blue Velvet’ liner by Daniel Sandler. Shop online at FeelUnique.com
The folding cosmetics bag is a winner for festivals. Two individual compartments let you keep your wet and dry products separate and the compact yet deceivably spacious inside makes creating a cosmetics capsule collection simple. It’s also a steal at just £10!
Keep with the blue trend with our Lorton in Smoke, so your makeup and your makeup bag can look stylishly coordinated.
TOP TIP: Pack extra baby wipes! You will use them all and you can have spares for your friends, when they realise they have run out after day one! To save space, take them out of their packaging and pop in a sandwich bag.
Fresh Faced for Festivals
Foundation and festivals are not the best of friends. The combination of hot weather and dancing means you’re not always looking fresh faced!
If you don’t want to go bare, then a compact foundation is a great idea. The lighter texture lets your skin breathe but still gives you a medium coverage.
We love Clarins’ ‘Everlasting’ compact. The long-lasting formula promises to keep you ‘fresh looking for 15 hours at a time’ and with 7 shades to choose from, we think this foundation ticks all the boxes!
